Planted: Flourishing in God’s Everlasting Waters

Jennifer Owen, MA, LPC, NCC

Any ladies out there have a green thumb? If you don’t know what I am referring to, a green thumb simply means that you have a natural talent for growing plants. As the wife of a certified horticulturist and the daughter of a gardener, you’d think that I’d have a green thumb… sadly growing plants is not my specialty. In fact, I have the habit of killing almost any house plant that I care for.

Caring for and growing plants takes a lot of time and effort. Various factors (such as weather, bugs, weeds, and diseases) can hinder the growth and development of a plant. A gardener must be aware of the environment that the plant is in and make adjustments in order to have the plant grow and flourish.

I don’t know about you but for me, as a woman, there are many things that come up in my life that cause fear and anxiety that hinders my growth. I want to be a better wife, mom, employee, daughter, and child of God but I struggle. There are seasons of my life where I am lacking the growth and flourishing that I desire.

Luckly, Scripture uses a picture of a tree to illustrate what our lives can look like when we are trusting in the Lord. Jeremiah 17:7-8 says,

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

whose trust is the Lord.

He is like a tree planted by water

that sends out its roots by the stream,

and does not fear when heat comes,

for its leaves remain green,

and is not anxious in the year of drought,

for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

In order to grow and flourish in the Lord, it is vital for women to have an atmosphere to grow deeper roots in God’s Word, foster relationships with other women through fellowship, and be refreshed with confidence that their identity is firmly planted in God. Trusting in the Lord places us in an environment that fosters growth.

That being said, we would like to invite YOU to an event called “Planted: A Women’s Gathering” that will be taking place at Hat Creek Camp in Brookneal, Virginia! This day long event is designed so that women can feel encouraged and empowered to trust in God’s everlasting waters to strengthen them to do the work that God has created them to do!

The purpose of this event is three-fold:

Promote Growth

  • We want this event to be a place where women grow to trust in God as their gardener to harvest the fruit they bear without ceasing. We have two sermons and various breakout sessions specifically discussing our relationship with God and our lives as women.

Foster Fellowship

  • This event is designed for women to gather together to learn from one another and discuss what God is doing in their lives. We want women of all ages to attend! Invite your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, or any other important women in your life. We have various outdoor activities available throughout the day from archery, cornhole, volleyball, large Jenga, a photobooth, etc.

Feel Refreshed

  • At the end of the day, we want women to feel physically and spiritually refreshed. We want women to feel confident that their identity is firmly planted in God and feel physically refreshed after a day of fun and relaxation. The calm and peaceful outdoor environment at Hat Creek Camp in addition to the delicious food throughout the day will help women to feel physically refreshed.
